Orifice & Free Jet Flow Apparatus

Product Code : SCL-CELE-14127

The Orifice and Free Jet Flow Apparatus is designed to study fluid flow measurement using a sharp-edged orifice under constant head conditions and to investigate the trajectory profiles of the resultant water jet. This apparatus allows students to determine the coefficient of discharge (Cd), which is the ratio of the actual measured flow rate to the theoretical flow rate.

The setup consists of a vertically mounted transparent cylindrical tank that maintains a constant head using an adjustable overflow pipe. The orifice is installed horizontally and flush with the tank wall at the base. The flow rate (actual discharge) is measured volumetrically using the measuring tank of an external hydraulic bench. A key feature is the Jet Trajectory Tracking Device with multiple pins and a plotting board, which allows students to plot the parabolic path of the free jet for comparison with theoretical calculations.
