Orifice Discharge Apparatus

Product Code : SCL-CELE-14116

The Orifice Discharge Apparatus is a self-contained experimental setup designed for students to investigate flow through orifices and nozzles and determine their key coefficients, including the coefficient of discharge (Cd), coefficient of velocity (Cv), and coefficient of contraction (Cc).

The core of the apparatus is a vertically mounted cylindrical transparent tank (Plexiglas) where the orifice is fitted flush in the base. A constant head over the orifice is maintained using an adjustable overflow pipe, and the head level is indicated by a scale. A crucial component is the Pitot tube with a traversing device, which allows students to measure the jet diameter and accurately locate the vena contracta (the point of minimum jet area), necessary for calculating the coefficient of contraction. The total head and Pitot head are measured using adjacent manometer tubes. The setup is compatible with a Hydraulic Bench for water supply and discharge measurement.
