Free and Forced Vortex Apparatus (Hb Accessory) Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India
Product Code : SCL-CELE-14034
This apparatus is a self-contained unit designed to visually
demonstrate and quantitatively measure the surface profile of a free vortex
(or potential vortex). This type of rotational flow is generated without the
application of continuous external torque.
1. Key Components and Design
The setup is specifically configured to generate a vortex by
introducing tangential flow while minimizing net external torque.
- Vortex
Vessel (Cylinder): The fluid is contained in a transparent
cylinder.
- Material: Acrylic
(transparent for observation).
- Dimensions:
Diameter 200 mm (approx.), Height 200 mm (approx.).
- Vortex
Generation: Four circumferential jets are placed
along the circumference of the cylinder near its bottom.
- Function:
Water injected through these tangential jets initiates the fluid
rotation.
- Principle: It
is assumed that the external torque exerted by these jets is
negligible once the flow stabilizes, forming a free vortex based on
the conservation of angular momentum.
- Drive: An FHP
Variable Speed motor (implied for water circulation) is included to
control the flow rate and, consequently, the strength of the vortex.
2. Purpose and Experiments (Inferred)
The primary goal is the verification of the theoretical
hyperbolic profile of a free vortex.
- Vortex
Profile Measurement: Using a pointer or probe (implied for
measurement), students measure the relationship between the radius (r) and
the water surface height (z).
- Theoretical
Verification: The measured surface profile is compared with
the theoretical relationship for a free vortex, which predicts a hyperbolic
shape.
- Conservation
of Momentum: The experiment demonstrates the principle where
the product of fluid velocity (V) and radius (r) is expected to be constant
throughout the main body of the vortex.
