Deep Filtration Apparatus

Product Code : SCL-CELE-14203

The Depth Filtration Apparatus demonstrates one of the most important processes in water and wastewater treatment — the removal of suspended solids by sand filtration. The unit enables comprehensive study of filtration through a granular medium, observation of pressure variation across the filter bed, and the complete filtration and backwashing cycle.

During operation, raw water containing suspended solids is pumped from the top into the sand filter. As water passes through the filter bed, solids are trapped within the pores of the sand layers, while clarified water (filtrate) exits from the bottom and collects in a tank. Over time, accumulated solids increase the pressure drop across the bed, reducing flow rate. The unit allows visualization and measurement of this process and its regeneration through backwashing with treated water, which restores filter performance.

This apparatus provides clear visualization, accurate measurement, and comprehensive control of all parameters relevant to depth filtration — making it ideal for teaching, research, and laboratory training in environmental, chemical, and civil engineering courses.
