Stability of Floating Body Apparatus Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India
Product Code : SCL-CELE-14123
The Stability
of a Floating Body Apparatus is a bench-top unit crucial for studying the stable,
unstable, and neutral equilibrium conditions of floating bodies, which is
vital for the design of ships, pontoons, and rafts. The experiment
focuses on demonstrating the laws of floatation and the importance of
the relative positions of the center of buoyancy, the center of
gravity, and the metacentric height.
The
apparatus utilizes a rectangular plastic pontoon. The center of
gravity is adjusted by changing the position of a vertical sliding
weight on a mast. The pontoon's stability is tested by applying a known
moment, which induces an angle of heel, by sliding a second lateral
weight along a cross rod. The angle of heel is measured directly using a plumb
bob and a scale on the lateral slide. By manipulating the weight positions,
students can vary the metacentric height to observe and analyze all three
equilibrium conditions (stable, unstable, and neutral).
