The Drain Permeameter is a
laboratory apparatus designed for teaching, demonstration, and research
related to soil filtration and drainage. It simulates the flow of water through
a soil column and a drain filter layer under constant head conditions.
The equipment features a transparent
column that is filled with the soil being tested. A removable base
section houses the filter material (the drain material) under
investigation. Water is supplied to the top of the column, and the resulting
discharge at the base is monitored. This monitoring allows for the assessment
of the filter material's efficiency in allowing water to pass while
retaining the soil. The apparatus is supported on a sturdy metal frame for
bench mounting.
